DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart today issued the
following statement on the arrest in Mexico of Zetas leader Omar Trevino
Morales:
"The Drug Enforcement Administration proudly
congratulates the Government of Mexico and their leadership in the arrest of
Omar Trevino Morales, head of the Zetas cartel. The Zetas represent the worst
in global organized crime: violence, intimidation, corruption, and brutal
killings. Today’s arrest strikes at the heart of the leadership structure of
the Zetas and should serve as yet another warning that no criminal is immune
from arrest and prosecution. Omar Trevino Morales facilitated and oversaw huge
drug shipments into the United States and elsewhere, and has been charged in
several judicial districts. We are pleased that he will face justice for his
crimes, and look forward to future successes with our Mexican partners.”
