BOISE B Juan Loredo, 22, of Salinas, California, was
sentenced today to 155 months in prison followed by five years of supervised
release for bank robbery by use of dangerous weapons, and brandishing of
firearms during the commission of a felony offense, U.S. Attorney Wendy J.
Olson announced. U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge also ordered forfeiture of
the three firearms involved in the bank robbery. Loredo pleaded guilty on March
24, 2015.
According to court documents, on November 20, 2014, Loredo
and his co-defendant Shawn Smith, 19, also of Salinas, California, robbed the
First Federal Bank in Twin Falls, Idaho. As the men entered the bank, Loredo
brandished a sawed-off shotgun, and Smith brandished a semi-automatic pistol at
the tellers and manager. They stole $7,351, all of which was recovered by
police when the men were arrested after a high-speed vehicle chase, and foot
pursuit.
Smith was sentenced on June 9, 2015, to 119 months in
prison.
"Those who use firearms to commit violent crimes, such
as bank robberies, will be vigorously investigated and prosecuted," said
Olson. "Innocent people who simply go to work each day in commerce, or who
go into our banks to transact their daily business, must not be put in fear for
their lives."
The men were apprehended by, and the case was investigated
by, the Twin Falls Police Department. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and
Firearms assisted in the investigation and prosecution of these offenses.
