Cheyenne, WY – A registered sex offender who was wanted in
Laramie County, Wyoming for Robbery, Assault and Unlawful Entry was located and
arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals led Wyoming Fugitive Task Force.
Max Gauna, 36 of Cheyenne, Wyoming was charged with robbery
and assault, stemming from an incident last year, where it is alleged that
Gauna entered into a residence and threatened a woman he had been dating and a
man she was with. During the encounter Gauna allegedly took a cellular phone
belonging to the woman.
Additionally, near the time of the issuance of the robbery
warrant, The Laramie County Sheriff requested the assistance of the U.S.
Marshals in Cheyenne with an investigation to determine if Gauna had ceased
residing at his registered address in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
On May 21, 2015 Members of the Wyoming Fugitive Task Force,
consisting of Deputy United States Marshals, investigators from the Cheyenne
Police Department and Laramie County Sheriff’s Department began a surveillance
operation targeting possible locations associated with Max Gauna. The operation
led to the Frontier Shopping Mall in Cheyenne, Wyoming where Gauna was observed
by undercover investigators. Gauna was taken into custody outside the shopping
center without incident.
During the investigation, it was determined that Gauna had
vacated his residence several months prior. That information is being followed
up on by the Laramie County Sheriff to determine if Failure to Register as a Sex
Offender charges should be applied.
