Fayetteville, NC - Dundra Sharess Merrell, 24, of Brunswick,
GA, was arrested today in Fayetteville by members of the Eastern District of
North Carolina Violent Fugitive Task Force and Fayetteville Police Department.
Merrell was wanted by the Brunswick Police Department for Aggravated Assault on
a Law Enforcement Officer, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, Possession
of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime and Possession of a Firearm by a
Convicted Felon.
The alleged conduct occurred in the early morning hours of
July 9th in Brunswick, GA, and began when Merrell fired a weapon into a motor
vehicle on Bourbon Street. One individual inside the vehicle was struck and
Merrell then fired on a responding Brunswick Police Officer.
The investigation to locate Merrell was turned over to the
U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Savannah the next day
and investigators worked tirelessly to track down Merrell. These efforts
shifted to Fayetteville earlier this week and resulted in Merrell’s arrest in
the 2800 block of Coronada Parkway. Merrell was taken into custody without
incident and is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center.

Force is comprised of officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, Cumberland
County Sheriff’s Office, Fayetteville Police Department, Greenville Police
Department, Kinston Department of Public Safety, New Hanover County Sheriff’s
Office, NC Department of Public Safety/Security Services, NC State Highway
Patrol, Pitt County Sheriff’s Office, Raleigh Police Department, Rocky Mount
Police Department, Wilmington Police Department and Wilson Police Department.
