DEA Releases Training Video on Fentanyl Exposure

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has released a short roll call training video for law enforcement about associated risks when encountering the drug fentanyl. Fentanyl, a synthetic opiate painkiller, is being mixed with heroin to increase its potency. Fentanyl can be absorbed through the skin or through accidental inhalation of airborne powder. Inhalation or absorption through the skin of fentanyl are potentially lethal. The DEA is concerned about officers coming in contact with fentanyl on the streets during the course of their law enforcement duties, and issued an alert about the drug last year.
