Albuquerque, NM - On June 09, 2017 Investigators with the
United States Marshals Service Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (SWIFT)
Task Force and Detectives with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office arrested
Andrew Eastman. Eastman was an escaped inmate from South Dakota and was also
wanted for questioning in relation to a homicide that occurred in Rapid City
South Dakota. Eastman walked away from an inmate work site in South Dakota
where he was serving a sentence for grand theft at the time.
Investigators from South Dakota believed that Eastman had
fled the state and was hiding out in Albuquerque. Investigators from the United
States Marshals Service in New Mexico and South Dakota along with Task Force
Officers here in New Mexico tracked down leads and were able to locate Eastman
in a Parking lot near the intersection of Montano Plaza Dr NW and Coors Blvd NW
in Albuquerque. Eastman was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals Service
SWIFT Task Force and Detectives with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office in
the parking lot where he was in possession of a stolen vehicle. Eastman was
booked at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center pending his
extradition back to South Dakota.
United States Marshal Conrad E. Candelaria said “justice is one
step closer to prevailing, due to the unyielding and tireless efforts of many
law enforcement agencies partnering with the Marshals Service from state, local
and county agencies, this fugitive will answer for any crimes he has
committed”.
