A federal grand jury returned a five-count indictment charging Darryl Lee Sanders, age 55, of Canton , Ohio , with bank robbery, Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, announced today.
Count 1 of the indictment charges that on or about December 4, 2010 , Darryl Lee Sanders robbed the U.S. Bank, 3100 Cromer Avenue, NW , Canton , Ohio , of approximately $4,090.
Count 2 of the indictment charges that on or about January 3, 2011 , Darryl Lee Sanders robbed the Chase Bank, 1615 South Arlington Road , Akron , Ohio , of approximately $2,000.
Count 3 of the indictment charges that on or about January 12, 2011 , Darryl Lee Sanders robbed the Huntington Bank, 4879 Portage Street, NW , North Canton , Ohio , of approximately $1,360.
Count 4 of the indictment charges that on or about January 28, 2011 , Darryl Lee Sanders robbed the Chase Bank, 1207 West State Street , Alliance , Ohio , of approximately $300.
Count 5 of the indictment charges that on or about February 1, 2011 , Darryl Lee Sanders robbed the Charter One Bank, 1106 30th Street, NW , Canton , Ohio , of approximately $1,100.
If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the court after review of factors unique to this case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense and the characteristics of the violations. In all cases, the sentences will not exceed the statutory maximum and, in most cases, it will be less than the maximum.
The investigation preceding the indictment was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation - Canton Resident Agency, and the Canton Safe Streets Task Force. The matter was presented to the grand jury by Assistant United States Attorney Linda H. Barr.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
