Man Arrested Following Robbery of U.S. Bank Branch in Fargo

On February 17, 2011, at approximately 10:56 a.m., the U.S. Bank branch located at

505 2nd Avenue North

in Fargo, North Dakota, was robbed by a lone man. The robber approached a teller window and made verbal demands for money to the teller. The robber did not display a weapon. The robber was provided with an undisclosed amount of money. He did not approach any of the other tellers on duty. The robber left the bank on foot, and bank employees and citizens in the area provided a description of the robber to police officers who responded to the bank's alarm. The officers observed the suspect running through an alley south of the bank. He was detained by the officers and transported to Fargo Police Department Headquarters, where he was placed under arrest. Bank robbery proceeds were found on his person subsequent to being searched.

The bank robbery suspect is identified as Scott Evans Maxwell, age 36, having no permanent address. He has been transported to the Cass County Jail pending the filing of a criminal complaint. Maxwell is not a suspect in any other bank robberies at this time.

The bank robbery is being investigated by the Fargo Police Department and the Fargo Resident Agency of the FBI.

The charges brought in a criminal complaint are merely an accusation and defendants are presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
