Miami – U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations at Fort Lauderdale International Airport received second place honors in the 2011 Pilots’ Choice Awards for best U.S. Customs Facility.
The association responsible for gathering the votes, Flightplan.com, is the largest professional, full-service flight planning and tracking system for General Aviation. The Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport General Aviation Facility and the Executive Airport were ranked 1st and 2nd respectfully, as the busiest general aviation facilities in CBP.
This year 45% more pilots voted than in 2010; with over 7,480 votes cast. The ranking criteria took into account the traffic at an airport and the amount of competition on the field.
Winning 2nd place honors for the amount of flights OFO processes is pretty impressive expressed Port Director George Roig.
“This award is a clear validation of the professionalism and dedication that the men and women of CBP Fort Lauderdale exhibit on a day to day basis to secure our nation and facilitate travel,” said Roig.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
