MARQUETTE, MI—Nicholas James Sayles, 29, of Kincheloe, Michigan, a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, was sentenced to 35 months in federal prison for domestic assault by an habitual offender, U.S. Attorney Donald A. Davis announced today. In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge R. Allan Edgar ordered Sayles to serve three years of supervised release following his release from prison and to pay a $100 special assessment. Sayles pleaded guilty to a federal indictment charging him with domestic assault by an habitual offender on March 9, 2011. The charge stemmed from an incident at Sayles' home in Kincheloe on December 27, 2010, during which Sayles assaulted his victim by choking her. Sayles has two previous domestic violence convictions in Michigan state court.
