CBP U.S. Border Patrol to Participate in Ceremonial Torch Run Parade

Buffalo, N.Y. – On Friday June 24th, agents with the U.S. Border Patrol Buffalo and Niagara Falls stations will participate in the Ceremonial Torch Run Parade of law enforcement vehicles, a pre-game event to be held prior to the Buffalo Bison’s baseball game on Special Olympics Night and in celebration of the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The Special Olympics “Flame of Hope” journeyed through Western New York on Friday, June 3rd carried by a team of agents.

Border Patrol agents will drive a Dodge Charger in the parade; an event that will also include a special plaque presentation to N.Y. State Trooper Kevin Dobson’s family. Trooper Dobson lost his life in the line of duty this past March.

Last year more than 85,000 law enforcement officers from thirty-five countries carried the “Flame of Hope” across their communities and on into their local games and competitions. In 2010, more than $36 million was raised internationally through Law Enforcement Torch Run initiatives, of which over $1 million was raised right here in New York. The funds generated by the Law Enforcement Torch Run support more than 51,000 Special Olympic athletes who train and compete year round in twenty-two Olympic-style sports.
