San Diego— U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro port of entry Monday discovered 261 pounds of marijuana hidden in the bed of a truck.
On March 19, at about 3 a.m., a CBP officer encountered a 19-year-old male U.S. citizen driving a 1994 Dodge Ram pickup when he entered the port for inspection. The CBP officer noticed a discrepancy with the truck bed and pulled the driver and truck aside for a more intensive examination.
Upon further inspection of the vehicle, CBP officers found a non-factory compartment built below the truck bed containing packages. Officer’s extracted 54 wrapped packages of marijuana valued at $156,000.
The driver, a resident of San Diego, was arrested and booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center. CBP seized the truck and marijuana.
