Fugitive Captured and Facing Felony Charges
San Marcos, Texas – Johnny Jo Luna, 35, was arrested today
by the United States Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) in
San Marcos, TX. An arrest warrant was issued for Luna pursuant to an
investigation by the Comal County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), on charges involving
the attempt to commit capital murder, aggravated kidnapping, unauthorized use
of a motor vehicle, and felony criminal mischief.
On January 23, 2014, members of the LSFTF initiated an
investigation in locating and apprehending Luna. Task force officers, through
investigative efforts, determined that Luna was hiding out at an apartment in
the 1500 block of South IH-35 in San Marcos, TX. Today, task force officers
conducted a brief surveillance and approached the apartment. Task force
officers entered the apartment, identified themselves, and made contact with
Luna. Luna was then taken into custody without incident.
In October 2012, Luna was allegedly involved in violently
and brutally assaulting a man in Canyon Lake, TX. After a thorough
investigation by detectives, last week a District Court Judge of Comal County
issued a warrant for Luna’s arrest.
Luna is currently being held in custody at the Hays County
Jail awaiting extradition to Comal County to face pending charges.
Robert R. Almonte, United States Marshal for the Western
District of Texas, stated, “As fugitives try harder to run and hide from the
law, our task force officers put their lives on the line and work even harder
to apprehend these violent offenders before they can commit more crimes or
potentially harm other victims.”
