U.S. Marshals Arrest Vermont Fugitive in Ocala, Florida



Burlington, VT - The U.S. Marshals Service, Vermont Violent Offender Task Force (VVOTF) in conjunction with the Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force (FCRFTF) arrested a fugitive who was wanted in Vermont for Escape.

Michael D. Gauthier, 38 of Williston, VT was arrested this afternoon in Ocala, Florida when confronted by Deputy U.S. Marshals and members of the U.S. Marshal led Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force. Gauthier’s underlying charges in Vermont consist of Aggravated Domestic Assault 1st Degree, Escape, Violation of Abuse Prevention Order, three counts of Violation of Conditions of Release and disturbing the peace. Gauthier has been eluding capture for nearly a year both in Vermont and in Florida.

Per the U.S. Marshal for the District of Vermont Dave Demag, “The days of violent fugitives from Vermont trying to seek refuge in other states is over.”

The arrest was a result of a culmination of investigative efforts by the U.S. Marshals VVOTF, the U.S. Marshals FCRFTF, and the Vermont State Police.
