Burlington, VT – The U.S. Marshals Service, Vermont Violent
Offender Task Force (VVOTF) arrested a fugitive who was wanted for Escape.
John Shambo, 51 of Winooski, Vermont was arrested yesterday
late afternoon in Essex when confronted by Deputy U.S. Marshals and members of
the Vermont Violent Offender Task Force. Shambo was wanted by The State of
Vermont Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole for Escape from Furlough
and has been a fugitive since July 2, 2015. Upon the issue of his arrest
warrant, it was believed Shambo was actively hiding from law enforcement.
John Shambo is no stranger to the criminal justice system.
Shambo has a criminal history dating back to 1982 and has a long history of
violent offenses to include multiple Armed Robberies, Multiple Escapes,
Multiple Kidnappings, Aggravated Assault with a Weapon, Assault and Battery,
Multiple Burglaries, Breaking and Entering, Larceny, Grand Theft, and various
other offenses. Shambo was arrested on a warrant and bail was set at $5,000.
Shambo is currently in state custody and was seen at The
Chittenden County Superior Court yesterday. Shambo was ordered detained on
$5,000 bail.
This arrest was a result of a culmination of investigative
efforts by the U.S. Marshals VVOTF, the Burlington Police Department, and ICE
Enforcement and Removal Operations.
