SYRACUSE, NEW YORK – John G. Stroming, age 60, of
Stuyvesant, New York, was found guilty today of sexual exploitation of a child
following a 2-day jury trial.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Grant C.
Jaquith; James N. Hendricks, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office
of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); and New York State Police Acting
Superintendent Keith M. Corlett.
The evidence at trial showed that Stroming video-recorded
himself sexually abusing a 19-month-old child and that he also possessed child
pornography involving other children. At
the time of the crimes, Stroming was required to register as a sex
offender. He has sex offense convictions
including for rape in the second degree (2011) and promoting an obscene sexual
performance by a child (1999).
Sentencing is set for September 9, 2019 before Senior United
States District Judge Norman A. Mordue.
Stroming faces at least 35 years in prison. A defendant’s sentence is
imposed by a judge based on the particular statute the defendant is charged
with violating, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.
This case was investigated by the New York State Police and
the FBI, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Katherine Kopita
and Shira C. Hoffman.
