Man Sentenced in Child Pornography Case

February 16, 2010 - BUFFALO, NY—Jeffrey John Frazier, 44, of North Tonawanda, New York, who was convicted of possession of child pornography on Oct. 21, 2009, was sentenced to a 20 years in prison followed by a 20 years supervised release by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara, U.S. Attorney Kathleen M. Mehltretter of the Western District of New York announced today.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles B. Wydysh, who handled the case, stated that the defendant had previously been convicted in North Tonawanda City Court for sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of child and had received a 60 days in prison followed by 6 years probation. On February 1, 2006, Niagara County Probation Officers determined that the defendant was using a computer to access the Internet and that the computer contained a link to a known child pornography website. The computer was seized and turned over to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office. As a result of the Niagara County Sheriff's search, the computer was submitted to the FBI wherein 239 files of child pornography were discovered on the computer.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. The conviction was the culmination of an investigation on the part of Special Agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge, James H. Robertson.
