February 16, 2010 - Sanford, FL - A man wanted by the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department was arrested by the United States Marshals Service Orlando Office of the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force in Sanford, Florida on February 16, 2010.
Davin Miquel Thomas, 24, was wanted by the Savannah Chatham Metro Police Department on a warrant issued on December 23, 2009, charging him with Robbery by Sudden Snatching. The victim in the case had a bank bag containing approximately $22,000 in cash. Thomas snatched the bag from the victim and fled.
The case was referred to the United States Marshals Service Savannah Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force in February 2010, to locate and arrest Miller. An intensive investigation was conducted by the Savannah Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force which indicated that Thomas had fled the Savannah, Georgia area and was possibly in Sanford, Florida at the home of his mother. The Savannah Regional Task Force provided this information to the Orlando Office of the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force in the early morning hours of February 16, 2010 for assistance. Due to the nature of the crimes, the Orlando Task Force immediately began their investigation to follow up on the leads from the Savannah Task Force. At approximately five o’clock am on February 16, 2010, Orlando Task Force investigators went the address of 5222 Hawkstone Drive in Sanford, Florida and arrested Thomas. Thomas was taken to the Orange County Jail to await extradition proceedings back to Georgia.
Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of over 36, 000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by the Marshals Service than all other federal agencies combined.
The Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force has three offices: Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah. The task force covers the whole state of Georgia. The Savannah Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force is a team comprised of investigators from the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department, the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and the United States Marshals Service. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with violent crimes, drug crimes, sex offenders, and other felonies. In 2009, U.S. Marshals led task forces arrested more than 90,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
