Texas CBP Officers Seize Nearly $461,000 in Cocaine

Brownsville, Texas. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge discovered cocaine valued at nearly half a million dollars hidden within a Chevrolet Suburban.

On Tuesday, April 26, at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge, CBP officers came in contact with a green 1996 Chevrolet Suburban allegedly owned by the passenger, a 37-year-old male resident of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. At primary a CBP officer referred the Suburban for a secondary examination. In secondary CBP officers discovered five packages hidden within the Chevrolet. CBP officers removed the five packages containing approximately 14.4 pounds of cocaine.

The cocaine from this seizure has an estimated street value of $460,800. CBP officers turned the driver and his passenger over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle.

“Great work is undertaken by our CBP officers each day as they continue to stop these drugs from being brought into our country. I commend our CBP officers for their vigilance in the fight against those that would aim to do us harm,” said Michael Freeman, CBP Port Director, Brownsville port of entry.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
