Border Patrol Confiscates Abandoned Marijuana

Narcotics Valued at $1.35 Million

Tucson, Ariz. – Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents seized 2,700 pounds of marijuana in Sonoita yesterday worth an estimated $1.35 million. 

Sonoita Station agents encountered an abandoned vehicle loaded with 382 bundles of marijuana yesterday in an area north of Lochiel, a small border town between Naco and Nogales. The bundles, with a combined weight of 2,700 pounds, filled the truck’s cab, bed and a non-factory compartment within the bed of the truck. The marijuana and vehicle were transported to the Sonoita Station for processing.

Border Patrol agents’ experience, dedication, and vigilance continue to serve as invaluable tools in combating transnational criminal organizations. Due to the Border Patrol’s increased efforts to deny drug traffickers from operating in the Tucson Sector, smugglers often choose to abandon their drug loads rather than risk apprehension and prosecution.
