Grand Island, NY— The U.S. Border Patrol, Buffalo Sector announced today that due to increased interest in the U.S. Border Patrol mission, they will conduct a Citizens Academy beginning Wednesday, April 18 at the Wellesley Island Border Patrol Station.
This program is designed to provide local residents the opportunity to learn more about the U.S. Border Patrol and its role in the community. The two-hour sessions will begin at 6:00 p.m., each Wednesday, for six consecutive weeks.
Participants will learn the history, mission and operational aspects of the Border Patrol, as well as immigration and criminal law, and use of force disciplines. The academy session will culminate with a graduation ceremony and the awarding of graduation certificates.
The academy is open to all U.S. citizens, 18 years of age and above, who are interested in learning about the Border Patrol’s history, legal authority, mission, operations and partnerships. Attendees will receive approximately 12 hours of instruction, tours and hands-on training from Border Patrol agents.
