Diego Rodriguez Named Special Agent in Charge of the New York Criminal Division

Director Robert S. Mueller, III has named Diego Rodriguez special agent in charge of the Criminal Division for FBI’s New York Division. Mr. Rodriguez most recently served as section chief of the Domain and Collection Management Section in the Directorate of Intelligence at FBI Headquarters.

Mr. Rodriguez entered on duty as a special agent in May 1990 and served in the New York Division. He was a member of the SWAT team and the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), a combined effort with the New York City Police Department. OCDETF was responsible for investigations involving South American and Mexican drug trafficking/money laundering organizations.

In August 1997 he was transferred to the San Juan Division. Mr. Rodriguez was a SWAT team member and also assigned to a drug/money laundering task force with the Puerto Rico Police targeting corrupt Caribbean and South American organizations.

He was promoted to supervisory special agent in January 1999 in the Criminal Investigative Division at FBI Headquarters and detailed to the Special Operations Division.

Mr. Rodriguez transferred to the Miami Division in February 2001, where he supervised the High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area squad. In November 2002, he supervised the FBI’s first Joint Terrorism Task Force in the West Palm Beach Resident Agency.

Mr. Rodriguez returned to Headquarters in June 2003 as unit chief of the Field Oversight Unit in the Directorate of Intelligence. He was responsible for Field Intelligence Groups in the 56 field offices. Shortly after, he was promoted to assistant special agent in charge of the Washington Field Office in April 2006 as the criminal, counterterrorism, and intelligence program manager.

A native New Yorker, Mr. Rodriguez received his Bachelor of Science degree from St. John’s University in 1988. Prior to his employment with the FBI, he taught for the New York City Board of Education.

Mr. Rodriguez and his wife have four daughters.
