Rice Lake Man Receives 14-Month Sentence for Fraud

MADISON, WI—Stephen P. Sinnott, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Romaine A. Quinn, 44, Rice Lake, Wisconsin, was sentenced today by Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 14 months in prison for transmitting money in interstate commerce that was obtained by fraud from two persons who had invested in his business, J.R. Quinn Trading.

On May 5, 2010, Quinn pleaded guilty to transferring $7,500 of the victims’ investment from the US Bank branch in Rice Lake to a US Bank branch in Las Vegas. Quinn then used the money to gamble at Mandalay Bay, a luxury resort and casino in Las Vegas. Judge Conley also directed Quinn to pay restitution for the full amount of the victims’ losses, which is $31,500.

United States Attorney Sinnott stated that the charges followed an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation together with the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions. Prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy M. O'Shea.
