MADISON, WI—Stephen P. Sinnott, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Trever J. Stefan, 37, Lyndon Station, Wisconsin, was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb to 14 months in prison for making false statements to a financial institution. Stefan previously pleaded guilty to the charge on April 22, 2010.
Stefan operated a company known as Stefan Homes, LLC, in Lyndon Station, which was engaged in the business of selling manufactured and modular homes. Stefan made false statements of material facts on documents submitted to the Community Credit Union, La Crosse, Wisconsin, in order to secure a $64,615 loan from that institution. Stefan falsely stated that the purpose of the loan was to purchase a modular home which would be held as collateral for the bank and located at one or two sites for display purposes. In fact, the defendant had sold the home to a customer and the customer had financed the home through another credit union.
The charges against Stefan were the result of an investigation conducted by the La Crosse office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Grant C. Johnson.
