Memphis, TN - Almost six years to the day after Jerome
Johnson was arrested for allegedly brandishing a sawed off rifle in front of an
elementary school, he has been brought back to justice by U.S. Marshals Task
Forces working together.
Jerome Johnson, also known as Jerome Kennedy Jr, was
arrested on May 22, 2008 for carrying a sawed off rifle in front of Gordon
elementary school located at 780 Decatur, Memphis Tenn. He was released on bond
but failed to appear in court on the charges of Possession of a prohibited
weapon and Carrying a weapon with intent on school property. A failure to
appear warrant was issued on these charges.
This case has been under investigation by the U.S. Marshals
Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force since August 2010. After intensive
investigation it was determined that the fugitive was in the Fort Worth, Tex.,
area. Agents with the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force were
contacted. Further investigation determined the fugitive was working at a fast
food restaurant. The fugitive was taken into custody at that restaurant on the
afternoon of May 20, 2014 without incident.
Johnson was transported to the Tarrant County Jail where at
the time of this report he awaits extradition by the Shelby County Sheriff’s
Office.
The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force is
a multi-agency task force with divisions in Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and
Louisiana. The Western Tennessee Division of the GCRFTF has offices in Memphis
and Jackson, and its membership is primarily composed of Deputy U.S. Marshals,
Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies, Memphis Police Officers, Madison County
Sheriff’s Deputies, Jackson Police Officers, and the Tennessee Department of
Corrections Special Agents. The primary mission of the Task Force is to arrest
violent offenders and sexual predators.
