St. Thomas, USVI –United States Attorney Gretchen C.F.
Shappert for the District of the Virgin Islands announced today that Duane
Woods, Jr. has been indicted for Receiving Stolen Government Property and Grand
Larceny. According to the indictment, Woods, who worked for FEMA at the time,
converted FEMA property to his own use, including a generator, phones,
monitors, and iPads.
This case is being investigated by the Department of
Homeland Security-OIG and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. It is being
prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nathan Brooks.
United States Attorney Shappert reminds the public that an
indictment is merely a formal charging document, and it is not evidence of
guilt. Every defendant is presumed innocent until and unless found guilty
beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
