May 18, 2010 - Hidalgo, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Hidalgo International Bridge seized marijuana and cocaine with a combined value of more than half a million dollars in two separate and unrelated drug seizures.
On May 11, CBP officers working at the Hidalgo International Bridge encountered a northbound 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck. The male driver was identified as a 29-year-old U.S. citizen from Ashland, Kent. After the initial primary examination, the driver and vehicle were referred to secondary for further inspection. In secondary, officers seized four blocks of bulk compressed marijuana that was found hidden within the pickup truck. The marijuana weighed 33.2 pounds and was valued at $26,596.
On May 14, CBP officers working at the Hidalgo International Bridge came in contact with a northbound 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck. The male driver was identified as a 47-year-old Mexican citizen from Dallas, Texas. A CBP officer referred the driver and vehicle to secondary for further inspection. In secondary, CBP officers seized seven cocaine packages that were found hidden within the pickup truck. The cocaine weighed 17.4 pounds and was valued at $557,322.
CBP officers seized the marijuana, cocaine and the two pickup trucks.
The two male travelers were transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents for further investigation.
CBP Port Director Hector A. Mancha said, “Our frontline officers continue working hard to prevent prohibited merchandise such as drug loads from entering our country.” Mancha added, “I commend our officers for their roles in intercepting and seizing these two drug loads.”
