June 23, 2010 - Pharr, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers working at the Pharr International Bridge seized 7.0 and 60.4 pounds of cocaine in two separate and unrelated enforcement actions. The combined estimated street value of the cocaine is $2,157,333.
On June 18, CBP officers working at the Pharr International Bridge came in contact with a northbound 1990 Chevy Corsica sedan and its driver, a 38-year-old Mexican citizen from Pharr, Texas. After the initial primary inspection, the driver and vehicle were referred to secondary for further inspection. In secondary, officers seized three cocaine packages that were found hidden within the Corsica sedan. The cocaine was valued at $224,340.
On June 22, Pharr CBP officers came in contact with a northbound 2001 Grand Marquis sedan and its driver, a 53-year-old U.S. citizen from McAllen, Texas. A CBP officer referred the driver and vehicle to secondary for further inspection. In secondary, officers seized 24 cocaine packages that were found hidden within the vehicle. In this seizure, the cocaine was valued at $1,932,993.
In both actions, CBP officers seized the drugs and vehicles. Both drivers were transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for further investigation.
“Our frontline officers are securing our nations border by intercepting and seizing drug loads,” said Hector A. Mancha, CBP Port Director of Hidalgo-Pharr. “I commend our officers for a job well done.”
