Brownsville, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge discovered cocaine valued at over $450,000 hidden within a Jeep Liberty.
On Wednesday, June 16, at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge, a CBP officer’s primary inspection of a black 2000 Jeep Liberty led to the vehicle and its driver being referred for a secondary examination. The vehicle was driven by a 20-year-old female Mexican citizen who resides in Rio Grande City.
At secondary inspection, CBP officers discovered hidden packages within the Jeep Liberty. CBP officers removed a total of six packages from the Liberty with a combined total weight of 6.4 kilograms, or 14.1 pounds, of cocaine.
The cocaine from this seizure has an estimated street value of approximately $451,200. CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents for further investigation. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle.
“This load of dangerous drugs will not reach the streets of our communities thanks in large part to the outstanding work being done by our CBP officers to safeguard our American homeland,” said Michael Freeman, CBP port director for the Brownsville port of entry.
