June 23, 2010 - NEWPORT NEWS, VA—Marc Derek Johnson, 49 of Brooklyn, New York, was sentenced today to 23 years in prison for his participation as the heroin supplier to a drug trafficking organization that distributed heroin throughout the Virginia Peninsula. Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, made the announcement after sentencing by United States District Judge Rebecca Beach Smith.
According to court documents, Marc Johnson obtained heroin for the organization in New York City and arranged for couriers to transport the heroin from New York City to “Table Top” locations in the cities of Newport News and Hampton. These “Table Top” locations were used to store, cut, and package bulk heroin into glassine bags for distribution in the cities of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, and Williamsburg and in the counties of Gloucester, James City, Mathews, Middlesex and York. As part of the sentence imposed, Marc Johnson forfeited a 2008 Mercedes Benz GL 450, and agreed to a monetary judgment of $1,500,000.00 based on the gross proceeds from the criminal activity.
This case was investigated by an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) led by the FBI’s Norfolk Division, and the investigative team that including Newport News Police Department, the Virginia State Police, the Hampton Police Division, the Poquoson Police Department, the Department of Veterans Affairs Office the Inspector General, Criminal Investigations Division, and the United States Army, Criminal Investigations Division. Assistant United States Attorney Laura P. Tayman prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
