Yuma, Ariz. — The number of emergency
medical technicians serving the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Yuma Sector
swelled to 97, after 15 Border Patrol agents graduated from the National
Registry EMT course on August 24.
The course, held at the Marine Corps Air
Station in Yuma, included 22 students representing the CBP Border Patrol, U.S.
Navy, U.S. Marines, Drug Enforcement Administration and CBP San Luis port of
entry.
Joseph Dressler, Acting CBP Patrol Agent
in Charge of the Special Operations Division said, “Adding 15 EMTs to our ranks
allows us to provide a greater level of care, not only to our agents, but also
to the communities in which we live.”
If an emergency situation arises in a
remote area where Border Patrol agents work, an ambulance could require an
extended response time. For this reason, agents trained as EMTs are available
to assist anyone in distress during Border Patrol missions.
CBP agencies in Arizona welcome
assistance from the community. Citizens can report suspicious activity to the
CBP Border Patrol and remain anonymous by calling (866) 999-8727 toll free.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged
with the management, control, and protection of our Nation's borders at and
between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and
terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
