9,000 Ecstasy Pills Seized at Ambassador Bridge

April 27, 2010 - Detroit – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Detroit’s Ambassador Bridge Port of Entry discovered 5.29 pounds of ecstasy tapped to the legs of a man attempting to make entry into the United States on Saturday.

The man, a 45-year-old U.S. citizen, told the officer that he had nothing to declare and that he was carrying about $25. The man was referred for further inspection where officers performed a pat down and felt an unusual bulge on the back of the man’s legs.

Officers discovered several packages of pills taped to both legs. A field test identified the pills as Ecstasy. A total of 5.29 pounds, approximately 9,022 pills, were discovered.

The man was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for federal prosecution.

“Customs and Border Protection officers work diligently to stop all threats at the border,” said Acting Port Director Tinesha Cherry. “This time it was ecstasy and the officers used their training and instincts to find it and prevent it from getting into our communities.”
