April 20, 2010 - San Diego - The crew of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection interdiction boat caught two women Monday on a fishing boat with 382 pounds of marijuana stashed onboard.
At about 2 a.m., CBP marine interdiction agents and a CBP officer boarded a 23-foot recreational vessel off Point Loma.
The marine interdiction agents found 24 packages of marijuana stashed in the forward compartment, weighing a total of 382 pounds, and worth an estimated $190,000.
CBP agents brought the boat and the two female occupants, a 34-year-old and a 36-year-old, both U.S. citizens, to the dock, seized the vessel and narcotics, and turned custody of the two women over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, from the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Maritime Task Force, who are investigating the matter further.
Both CBP and ICE are members of the San Diego Maritime Unified Command, which also includes the Coast Guard and other law enforcement partners, as an all-threats multi-agency approach to maritime law enforcement operating in the San Diego and Orange County maritime region.
