Luzerne County Clerk of Courts Charged in a Criminal Complaint

April 19, 2010 - Dennis C. Pfannenschmidt, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced today that Robert Francis Reilly, Luzerne County Clerk of Courts, was charged in a criminal complaint with soliciting and receiving bribes and gratuities in his capacity as the Luzerne County Clerk of Courts, which is a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 666(a)(1)(B).

If convicted of the charge, Reilly faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is conducting the investigation of the case and prosecution has been assigned to Assistant United States Attorney John Gurganus.

An Indictment or Information is not evidence of guilt but simply a description of the charge made by the Grand Jury and/or United States Attorney against a defendant. A charged defendant is presumed innocent until a jury returns a unanimous finding that the United States has proven the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt or until the defendant has pled guilty to the charges.
