CBP Officers Seize Marijuana Hidden in Tires


April 23, 2010 - Progreso, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers working at the Progreso International Bridge seized 89.2 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $71,393.

On April 20, officers at the Progreso International Bridge came in contact with a northbound 1997 Honda Passport sedan. The driver of the vehicle was identified as an 18-year-old U.S. citizen from Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. A CBP officer referred the vehicle and driver to secondary for further inspection. In secondary, officers seized 16 marijuana packages that were found hidden in the vehicle’s tires. CBP officers seized the marijuana and the vehicle.

The male driver was transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for further investigation.

“Our front line officers did great work in intercepting and seizing this drug load. I commend our officers for a job well done,” said Nancy F. Becker, CBP Port Director Progreso.
