Niagara Falls, N.Y. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Buffalo Field Office, is reporting the federal arrest of two individuals in unrelated circumstances for making false statements during inspection.
Arrested on May 4, at the Rainbow Bridge was Rashida Moten, a 50-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen born in Pakistan. Moten was encountered by CBP officers as she applied for admission as a Canadian citizen destined to Pennsylvania to visit family. Although Moten presented herself as a Canadian citizen, record checks and officer questioning revealed that she also obtained U.S. citizenship in 1997.
Moten made numerous false statements denying the fact that she was also a U.S. citizen in an attempt to conceal prior fraudulent statements made to U.S. officials. Federal prosecution was accepted for violation of section 18 USC 1001-false statements. Moten is currently held in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending further judicial hearings.
In Lewiston, N.Y., arrested on May 4, at the Lewiston Bridge port of entry was Chun Leung, a 31-year-old U.S. citizen from Staten Island, N.Y. Leung was attempting to export a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer to Canada when encountered by CBP officers. Research conducted on Mr. Leung’s export application was found to be in violation with the requirements set forth in the CBP vehicle export regulations (19 CFR 192).
In an attempt to comply with these requirements, Mr. Leung made numerous false statements to CBP officers. Federal prosecution was accepted for violation of section 18 USC 1001-false statements. Leung was turned over to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
