Smugglers Abandon Marijuana to Avoid Apprehension

May 5, 2010 - La Grulla, Texas - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande City station seized 424 pounds of marijuana early Tuesday morning near La Grulla. On May 4, Rio Grande City Border Patrol agents seized 424 pounds of marijuana south of La Grulla, Texas, while walking a trail.

Agents in search of illicit activity were walking a trail notorious for alien and narcotics smuggling when they encountered a group of men in the brush. The group scattered and fled into the surrounding brush leaving behind nine bundles of marijuana valued at more than $300,000.

The marijuana was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
