Houston Man Arrested for Extortion and Making Threatening Telephone Calls

ATLANTA—Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Brian Lamkin, FBI Atlanta, today announces the arrest of XXXXXXXXXXXX, age 61, of Houston, Texas, on extortion/interstate threatening telephone call charges.

XXXX was arrested on the evening of May 27, 2010, without incident, at his residence.  XXXXX was arrested by FBI special agents and task force officers of the FBI-Houston Violent Crimes Task Force. XXXXXX was arrested based upon a federal complaint and warrant filed in the Middle District of Georgia, Columbus, Georgia. This warrant alleges that XXXXX made an extortionate/threatening telephone call to American Family Life Assurance Company, (AFLAC) Columbus, Georgia, on May 24, 2010. This document alleges that  XXXXXXX threatened AFLAC personnel with violence, including using a firearm and an explosive device if his claim was not resolved in a timely manner.

 xxXXXXX is scheduled to appear before a United States Magistrate in Houston, Texas at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2010, for an initial appearance and bond hearing.

Upon a conviction of a violation of Title 18, section 875 (Extortion/Interstate Threatening Communications) the maximum sentence is five years’ imprisonment and a fine imposed by the United States District Judge.

This matter was jointly investigated by the Columbus, Georgia Police Department, FBI-Atlanta Division and FBI-Houston Division.

 xxxxxxx, like all persons arrested, should be considered innocent until such time as this matter receives its final adjudication.
