Laredo, TX – On August 5, 2012, Border
Patrol agents assigned to the Laredo West Station seized 2,770.4 pounds of
marijuana at the Laredo West Checkpoint located at Texas Highway 83. While an
agent was conducting an immigration inspection of the tractor-trailer, a
service canine alerted to possible hidden people or contraband. The
tractor-trailer was sent to secondary for further inspection.
At secondary inspection, the agents
discovered a false compartment toward the front of the trailer. Agents searched
the false compartment and discovered 227 bundles of a substance that tested
positive as marijuana. The drug has an estimated street value of $2,216,320.
The driver, marijuana, and tractor-trailer were turned over to the Drug
Enforcement Administration.
