United States Attorney Brendan V.
Johnson announced that a Valentine, Nebraska woman has been indicted by a
federal grand jury for wire fraud, theft from gaming establishment on Indian
Lands, and theft from Indian Tribal Organization.
Michelle Carrier, a/k/a Michelle
Witt-Moore, age 36, was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 18, 2012. She
appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on August 7,
2012, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon
conviction is up to 20 years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both.
The charges are merely accusations, and
Carrier is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The investigation is being conducted by
the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement
Services. Assistant United States Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers is prosecuting
the case.
Carrier was released on bond pending
trial. The trial date has not been set.
