Border Patrol Agents Seize Marijuana, Conduct Rescues Over Holiday Weekend

June 3, 2010 - Edinburg, Texas — U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande Valley sector seized more than 7,000 pounds of marijuana in unrelated events and rescued two adult males during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Beginning Saturday, agents seized more than 3.5 tons of marijuana. The multiple seizures spanned across the Rio Grande Valley from Rio Grande City to Weslaco and north to the Falfurrias Border Patrol checkpoint and had a cumulative value of more than $5.6 million.

In conjunction with performing enforcement efforts throughout the Rio Grande Valley sector, agents were saving lives as well. Agents assigned to the Falfurrias Border Patrol station rescued two illegal aliens from Mexico when they activated a rescue beacon.

The men became distressed while trekking through the brush to circumvent the checkpoint and had to trigger the device for assistance. Responding agents located the subjects at a ranch near Falfurrias, Texas.
