Kansas Man Sentenced for Murder-for-Hire Scheme

KANSAS CITY, MO—Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Prairie Village, Kansas, man was sentenced in federal court today for arranging the murder-for-hire of his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.

Doby S. McClellan, 30, of Prairie Village, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dean Whipple this afternoon to four years and nine months in federal prison without parole.

On Oct. 26, 2009, McClellan pled guilty to using a cell phone and traveling across state lines to hire another person to commit murder. McClellan admitted that he sought to hire another person to murder Scott Strahl of Harrisonville, Missouri. McClellan offered to pay someone $2,500 to kill Strahl, who was living with McClellan’s ex-girlfriend.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christina Y. Tabor. It was investigated by the Mission, Kansas, Police Department, the Harrisonville, Missouri, Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
