SAN ANTONIO - A Texas man was sentenced on Thursday to eight years in federal prison for receiving child pornography after an investigation led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
Kyle Wellborn, 50, of Bandera, pleaded guilty May 17 to one count of receiving child pornography. He was sentenced to 97 months in federal prison on Sept. 23. Wellborn was ordered to surrender to the U.S. Marshal's Service in March 2011 to begin serving his sentence.
According to information presented in court, Wellborn was being investigated for purchasing access to child pornography websites on at least 23 occasions. In December 2008, HSI agents executed a federal search warrant at Welborn's residence. During the search warrant, agents discovered and seized three laptop computers, three thumb drives, two bags of loose compact discs and several camera tapes and equipment, including a bag containing photographs of children.
A forensic examination conducted by HSI of the digital storage media revealed that Wellborn possessed 164 videos and 5,056 images of child pornography.
This investigation was part of Operation Predator, a nationwide ICE initiative to protect children from sexual predators, including those who travel overseas for sex with minors, Internet child pornographers, criminal alien sex offenders, and child sex traffickers. Since Operation Predator was launched in July 2003, ICE has arrested more than 12,800 individuals.
