Gardner Man Gets Five Years in Jail for Drug Distribution

BOSTON, MA—A Gardner resident was sentenced today in federal court for selling crack cocaine and heroin.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz; Steven W. Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in New England, Richard DesLauriers, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division; Massachusetts State Police Colonel Marian J. McGovern; and Fitchburg Police Chief Robert A. DeMoura announced today that Hector David Aulet, 32, of Gardner, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge F. Dennis Saylor, IV to five years' imprisonment to be followed by four years of supervised release for distributing cocaine base and heroin in 2009.

At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that had the case proceeded to trial the Government's evidence would have proven that on three occasions in 2009, Aulet sold drugs to a witness who was cooperating with DEA agents. Each of the sales was secretly audio and video recorded by the witness. According to the prosecutor, in July 2009, a witness, equipped with a video and audio recorder, purchased three packages of heroin for $2,200 from Aulet at Meadowbrook Village in Fitchburg where the defendant had lived. The prosecutor reported that a week later, Aulet sold a witness 28 grams of crack cocaine for $1,100 from the defendant's apartment. A week after that, Aulet sold a witness two small packages of heroin and crack cocaine which the defendant called "2.9 pura".

The case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's HIDTA Task Force in Worcester. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David Hennessy of Ortiz's Worcester Branch Office.
