Edinburg, Texas - With temperatures remaining high throughout south Texas, the number of illegal aliens who require assistance due to extreme heat continues to rise.
Over the past weekend U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector rescued 16-illegal aliens whose lives were in jeopardy.
The first rescue took place Saturday when the Falfurrias Border Patrol Station was contacted by the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a 911 distress call they received from an illegal alien who was in need of assistance. Agents located the man in the brush near Falfurrias using information the man provided in the 911 call.
Another 14 illegal aliens were rescued Sunday when agents were again, notified by the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office about a 911 call from a man who said he was part of a group that was lost in the brush and needed help. Agents quickly located the group using GPS coordinates provided by the sheriff’s office.
Additionally, another man was rescued by agents from the Kingsville Station after receiving a call from Kennedy County regarding a 911 call from an illegal alien who was in need of assistance near Los Finados Lake. The agents located the man with the help of a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter.
None of the individuals rescued over the weekend required medical assistance. They will all be processed for return to their countries of origin.
So far this fiscal year agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector have rescued more than 180 illegal aliens whose lives were at risk due to a variety of circumstances.
