KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Carrollton, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for illegally possessing firearms.
Fred A. Walker, 40, of Carrollton, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dean Whipple to 15 years and eight months in federal prison without parole. Walker was sentenced as an armed career offender due to his prior felony convictions.
On April 13, 2011, Walker pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of firearms. Walker admitted that he was in possession of an RG Industries .22–caliber pistol and a New England Firearms 20–gauge shotgun on Dec. 2, 2010. Walker, who was on state probation in an unrelated case, was stopped by a Carroll County deputy for driving with a revoked license. During a search of his pick–up truck, the pistol was found lying under a coat and the shotgun was found behind the seat.
Under federal law, it is illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition. Walker has two prior felony convictions for assault, as well as prior felony convictions for arson, driving while revoked, possession with intent to distribute and driving while intoxicated.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul S. Becker. It was investigated by the Carroll County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
