Chickasha, OK – On August 4, 2011 the United States Marshals along with Grady County Jail personnel thwarted an attempt to escape from jail by federal prisoner Sergio Contreras-Sanchez, aka “Boxer”. Also arrested in the escape attempt was Maria Jimenez, girlfriend to Contreras-Sanchez.
Using sophisticated investigative techniques Marshals Service Personnel uncovered information that Contreras-Sanchez was planning his escape with outside help, to include family members and other associates. Deputy Marshals continued to monitor and investigate the planned escape attempt and learned that Jimenez was traveling to Oklahoma City from Las Vegas to attend Contreras-Sanchez’s sentencing. After the sentencing Jimenez attempted to bribe an officer into assisting with the escape. Jimenez was taken into custody during the money transaction. At no time was Contreras-Sanchez in a non-secure area or at risk of escape.
Earlier that day Contreras-Sanchez was sentenced to 235 months for running a heroin trafficking operation in the Oklahoma City area.
Maria Jimenez was arrested and charged with aiding and assisting in an escape attempt of a federal prisoner and attempting to bribe a law enforcement official. Sergio Contreras-Sanchez faces additional charges of attempting to escape from a secure area.
The U.S. Marshals Service is the nation’s oldest federal law enforcement agency. U.S. Marshals annually capture more federal fugitives than all other federal law enforcement agencies combined.
