Border Patrol Agents Seize More than Half a Ton of Marijuana


April 12, 2010 - Los Ebanos, Texas — U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande City station seized more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana late Thursday night.

Agents noticed a Chevy Tahoe traveling without it’s headlights on near the community of Cuevitas. The vehicle was in the area of the Rio Grande, and sped off when agents began to follow. The driver pulled into the driveway of a nearby residence and bailed out, fleeing the scene.

Agents discovered 50 bundles of marijuana with an estimated value of more than $900,000 inside the SUV.

The vehicle and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for investigation.
