Kyle Man Sentenced to 30 Months of Jail Time for Running Over Child While Being Intoxicated

April 12, 2010 - U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a man charged with assault resulting in serious bodily injury was sentenced on April 9, 2010, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Rolland Gene Kills Straight, a/k/a Woody, age 34, of Kyle, was sentenced to 30 months' imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund. Kills Straight was indicted for assault resulting in serious bodily injury by a federal grand jury on November 18, 2009. While under the influence of alcohol, Kills Straight drove a pickup truck through Kyle and ran over a child. His blood alcohol content was .225 percent. As a result of the accident, the victim suffered an acute skull fracture, multiple rib fractures, pulmonary contusions, splenic lacerations, hemorrhage, and a leg fracture. These injuries were life threatening but not permanent. Kills Straight pled guilty to the charge on January 12, 2010. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy R. Jehangiri prosecuted the case. Kills Straight was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
