April 1, 2010 - NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA—RAYMOND MOTEN, age 37, a former resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced today in federal court before U.S. District Judge Helen G. Berrigan to fifteen (15) months' imprisonment for wire fraud, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, the defendant has been ordered to pay $5,055 in restitution as well as serve three (3) years of supervised release during which time he will be under federal supervision and risks additional imprisonment should he violate any terms of the release.
According to court documents, on October 28, 2010, MOTEN pled guilty admitting that on six occasions between September 10, 2005 and October 6, 2005, he fraudulently applied for and received disaster assistance funds from the American Red Cross despite the fact that he was permitted to receive the funds only once.
The case was being investigated by agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Chester.
